Ready availability of an automotive-based workforce

Volvo’s Warwick headquarters are the hub of Volvo’s network of 85 Volvo & Bus truck dealers and distributors throughout the UK & Ireland with over 500 employees working for the five Group companies located in the building.

Finding the right location

It was back in the eighties, that the Volvo Group took the brave decision to move its established national Truck and Bus headquarters and Parts Warehouse over 300 miles from Irvine in Scotland to the Midlands.

It was originally decided that Warwickshire offered the best solution, being central to our business and offering faster response times as the area was located less than three hours from over 90% of our truck and bus customers.

A location in Warwick was eventually chosen because of the ready availability of an automotive-based workforce and the announcement in 1983 that the soon-to-be–built M40 motorway would pass close to the town, affording good access both to our burgeoning UK distributor and dealer network and our supply base in Gent, Belgium.

In the 30 years since Volvo relocated we have extended the premises twice and the Parts warehouse has since moved to larger premises in Rugby, so we are now firmly established as a major employer in the Warwick area. We are also keen to be seen as ‘good neighbours’ and are developing our presence in the locality through numerous employee volunteering schemes and our ‘See & Be Seen’ child road safety initiatives.
